Join Shelly Prosko, physiotherapist and yoga therapist, for this online course INTEGRATING YOGA INTO PELVIC PAIN CARE for rehab professionals who work with people living with chronic or persistent pelvic pain.

 

We will explore a variety of yoga practices and principles and learn how they align with the current scientific theories and understandings surrounding pain and how they can be adapted to provide safe and effective ways for people with pelvic pain move with more ease, reduce and manage their pain, and progress towards a thriving quality of life.

We will use an evidence-informed whole-person approach to pain management that supports self-efficacy and empowerment within the person in pain and promotes longevity of compassionate caregiving within the professional.

This 2-part online course includes a combination of lecture, discussion and experiential components.

Enjoy the opportunity for some well deserved self-care as you experience practices that can be immediately used with your patients in the clinic setting such as:

  • movement exploration and yoga postures
  • awareness practices
  • breathing techniques
  • mindfulness meditative practices
  • language and cueing to promote safety and confidence
  • layering practices
  • exploring ways to provide novel input

…to help promote pelvic floor relaxation, optimal excursion, and systems-wide regulation, therefore modulating the pain experience.

 

 

After this 2-part online course you will be able to:

 

Describe the 8 limbs of Raja yoga with an introductory understanding of how they can be adapted as part of evidence-informed pelvic pain care within therapists’ professional scope of practice.

Compare and contrast the biopsychosocial-spiritual and yoga’s pancha maya kosha models of health, understand their use and limitations, and describe how they relate to evidence-informed pain care.

Demonstrate an understanding of the biopsychosocial-spiritual changes that can result within a person when pain persists.

Apply clinical reasoning to integration of yoga practices and principles within the context of pelvic pain care.

Demonstrate/participate in yoga practices of awareness, breathing, mindfulness meditative techniques and mindful movement guided by yoga principles and pain science within the context of pelvic pain care.

Apply at least three accessible and suitable yoga practices that can be immediately used in the clinical setting to help modulate pelvic pain and give the person in pain a sense of self-efficacy and empowerment in their pain care.

 

An abundance of resources are included.

 

Audience:

Pelvic health rehabilitation and wellness professionals including PT/OT and other rehab professionals, movement/fitness professionals, yoga professionals, or any health practitioner who works with people with pelvic pain and who have an interest in integrating yoga principles and practices into pelvic pain care for a more mind-body-spirit or whole person empowered approach.
