Yoga U Online Webinar: Pain Care Yoga
Yoga U Online WebinarPain Care Yoga with Neil Pearson & Shelly Prosko. Pain is one of the most common reasons for individuals to seek assistance from medical, therapeutic and yoga practitioners. Yet, few educational systems in western or eastern health care include knowledge acquisition related to pain or to the lived experience of pain. The techniques, discipline and systems of classic yoga are well-suited for integration with pain care and pain self-management techniques. A well-rounded yoga practice, incorporating any lineage of yoga asana, is one path that individuals can follow in their recovery from chronic pain conditions. Join Neil Pearson & Shelly Prosko in this 2 part webinar (two, 1 hour webinars) hosted by Yoga U Online discussing pain science and offering an experiential component of using a variety of aspects of yoga for pain care, and addressing topics such as practicing yoga in the face of pain (how much pain is too much in yoga?) Registration & more details coming soon to www.yogaUOnline.com

University of Saskatchewan: College of Physical Therapy 50th Anniversary
University of Saskatchewan, College of Physical Therapy Saskatoon, SK, CanadaUniversity of Saskatchewan, College of Physical Therapy: Yoga Therapeutics in Physical Therapy…………………………………………Shelly Prosko Session Description: Yoga is one of the most popular complementary health practises in North America. The number of physical therapists using yoga as a therapeutic tool is on the rise, perhaps partly due to the increasing evidence that shows its efficacy in rehabilitation outcomes of special populations. As physical therapists, we have extensive training, knowledge and skills that allows us to potentially use yoga as therapy. Join Shelly as she discusses what yoga therapeutics is, why it is a beneficial adjunct to rehabilitation, and how it can be incorporated into our physical therapy practise safely, effectively and in an evidence informed manner that is within our scope of practise. Learning Objectives: •Define & differentiate yoga and yoga therapy. •Outline the yoga therapy kosha model of health & discuss the similarities to the biopsychosocial approach in modern healthcare. •Discuss the benefits & challenges of incorporating yoga into physical therapy, not only for the practising physical therapists, but also for clinic owners, educators and department managers.
