SUMMARY:Yoga Therapy in Pain Care - Live Online
DESCRIPTION:Photo credit Ron Naresh King \nAn estimated 20-25% of North Americans and 1.5 billion people worldwide live with chronic pain and a growing number of health professionals are recommending yoga to their patients particularly since we now have research to support yoga is a potentially safe and effective approach for improving function\, pain and quality of life for people with chronic pain. \nYoga therapists are well positioned to contribute to a comprehensive pain care plan. \nHowever\, misunderstandings about pain by the therapist can result in suboptimal outcomes for the person in pain. The therapist might use language that unintentionally limits the potential for recovery and resilience or might avoid yoga practices that ultimately would improve the individual’s tissue health\, reduce inflammation\, support self-efficacy\, help restore more ease of movement\, and help regain activities that the person enjoys and values in life. \nJoin Shelly Prosko\, Physiotherapist\, Yoga Therapist\, author and professional continuing education provider in this 3 day yoga therapy course to help clinicians integrate yoga principles\, practices and current pain science for a more whole-person centered evidence-informed approach to pain care. \nThis module includes a combination of lecture and experiential components\, including participation in awareness\, breathing\, meditation and movement practices. \nResources will be shared that will be valuable for the therapist to use for themselves and to share with the people in pain they serve. \n  \nREGISTER HERE for this course through Ajna Yoga Therapy School \n  \nSchedule: \nFriday March 1\, 2024:  6:00 – 9:00 pm MT \nSaturday March 2\, 2024:  10:00 am – 2:30 pm MT \nSunday March 3\, 2024:  10:00 am – 2:30 pm MT \n  \nCEUs are awarded for C-IAYT Yoga Therapists upon completion of this course as it is an Approved Professional Development (APD) course with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). \n  \n* This course is not intended to act as therapy\, medical advice\, or treatment. Please receive clearance to participate from your licensed healthcare provider before participating should you have any physical or mental health conditions. \n  \nREGISTER HERE\n  \n

But sometimes these practices can increase pain. \nHow we move\, breathe\, what we think and feel about ourselves\, and our habitual self-talk or self-criticism can be useful to consider and explore in pain management. \nResearch suggests that self-compassion can be helpful for people with a wide range of health issues\, including chronic pain. Many compassion and pain researchers and people in pain agree that self-compassion is a radical act of self-care and consider it to be the foundation of successful pain care. \nJoin Shelly Prosko\, physical therapist and yoga therapist with over 25 years of experience in pain care\, for this engaging 4-part online class series on cultivating self-compassion. \nShelly will combine self-compassion principles and practices with yoga-inspired practices to guide you to move\, breathe\, reflect\, explore\, learn and experience the dynamic process of self-compassion. \n\nWho is this class for? \n\n\nIf you live with persistent or chronic pain and want to try some self-care strategies; perhaps you’re looking for something new\, different or in addition to what you are already doing \n\n\n\n\nIf this concept of self-compassion interests you\, and you would like to learn more about it and its health benefits – and if you are curious to learn how to practice it\, bring it into your life\, and experience the benefits it can offer \n\n\nIf you are interested in trying mindfulness\, movement\, and breathing practices or yoga-type classes\, but have been hesitant for many reasons like feeling self-conscious\, or fearful of injury or worried at not having options or permission to go at your own level or pace \n\n\nIf you need a boost and want to restart a regular practice that you have trouble committing to because of unpredictable pain or fatigue \n\n\nIf you are a movement\, fitness\, yoga or health professional who wants to learn and experience self-compassion principles and practices combined with yoga-inspired practices that are in line with pain science and compassion science that can then be shared with your clients or patients in your clinic or studio setting. \n\n\n  \n**Who is this class not for? \nThis class series is not intended to assess\, treat or act as medical advice. The foundational principles and practices included in the class series will be highlighted. \n\n\nShelly will also guide you through some introductory practices in this first session. \n10-15 minutes of Q&A and discussion at the end will be included (this portion will NOT be recorded and will only be for those attending live). \n\n\nThe remaining 3 classes will consist of guided practices (no lecture presentation). Practices will include: mindful awareness\, gentle movements\, breathing practices\, self-compassion\, self-reflective practices. \n\n\n10-15 minutes of Q&A and discussion at the end will be included (this portion will NOT be recorded and will only be available for those attending live). \n\n\nThe 4 classes will be online via zoom. SUMMARY:Yoga Therapy in Pain Care
DESCRIPTION:An estimated 20-25% of North Americans and 1.5 billion people worldwide live with chronic pain and a growing number of health professionals are recommending yoga to their patients particularly since we now have research to support yoga is a potentially safe and effective approach for improving function\, pain and quality of life for people with chronic pain. \nYoga therapists are well positioned to contribute to a comprehensive pain care plan. However\, misunderstandings about pain by the therapist can result in suboptimal outcomes for the person in pain\, where the therapist might use language that unintentionally limits the potential for recovery and resilience or might avoid yoga practices that ultimately would improve tissue health\, reduce inflammation\, support self-efficacy\, help restore more ease of movement\, and help regain activities that the person enjoys and values in life. \nJoin Shelly Prosko\, Physiotherapist\, Yoga Therapist\, educator and pioneer of PhysioYoga in this 3 day yoga therapy module that includes a combination of lecture and experiential components\, including participation in awareness\, breathing\, meditation and movement practices. \nResources will be shared that will be valuable for the therapist to use for themselves and to share with the people in pain they serve. \nSchedule: \n2023: \nFriday Feb 3:  5 – 8 pm PST \nSaturday Feb 4:  9 am – 1:30 pm PST \nSunday Feb 5:  9 am – 1:30 pm PST \n  \nTo register visit Ajna Yoga Therapy HERE \n  \n  \n*This module is pre-approved for hours counted towards IAYT Professional Development for Continuing Education for Yoga Therapists

SUMMARY:Yoga Therapy in Pain Care - Live Online
\n Resources will be shared that will be valuable for the therapist to use for themselves and to share with the people in pain they serve. \nSchedule: \nFriday March 11\, 2022:  5 – 8 pm PST \nSaturday March 12\, 2022:  10 am – 2:30 pm PST \nSunday March 13\, 2022:  10am – 2:30 pm PST \n  \nTo register visit Ajna Yoga Therapy HERE
