Day 1:

Friday, Sept 16: 5 – 8pm

“Your Brain On Pain: Neuroscience Meets Yoga for Better Pain Management”

Join Shelly Prosko, PT, PYT, CPI, for this 3 hour PhysioYoga workshop as she explains the neuroscience of pain including roles the brain and nervous systems play in pain, and how yoga can be safely used to reduce pain, manage stress & used as a key component for injury prevention.  This workshop includes a combo of theory & practice including awareness practices, movement, breathing methods, meditation & yoga philosophy using Life is Now Pain Care Yoga guidelines and valuable resources to share.

 

Day 2:

Saturday, Sept.17: 

“The Power of the Core: Yoga Uniting Breath, Voice + Pelvic Floor”
9am – 12pm
Join Shelly Prosko, Physical Therapist & Professional Yoga Therapist, for this 3 hour PhysioYoga workshop exploring the 3 diaphragms of the human body. Be prepared to learn & experience how the voice, respiratory diaphragm and pelvic floor all work together as a coordinated team to contribute to overall health & wellness. This workshop includes a combo of theory & a fun yoga practice including movement with breath, vocal sounds, awareness & visualization practices, and meditation.
“Find Breath, Find Balance”
2 – 5pm
Join Shelly as she passionately shares this educational and empowering workshop discussing the mechanics and physiology of breathing and how it influences numerous systems of our body, including how we move and how we feel.Breathing patterns can influence all 5 Koshas (physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual) of our existence; conversely, the state of our Koshas can influence our breathing patterns. We will discuss and explore some of the most common and inefficient breathing patterns in our culture (and in the yoga studio!) and how they can lead to states of imbalance and influence our overall function, health and well being.A fun and inspiring practical yoga component consisting of asanas, pranayama and meditation will be included. Come with an open mind and heart to explore the combination of the science of respiration with the art of yoga.

Day 3:

Sunday, Sept. 18:

“Yoga for the Athlete + Active Adult”

9am – 12pm

Join Shelly for this part lecture-part practical workshop about how different aspects of yoga can help prevent injuries, optimize performance, and create and sustain overall health in the athlete or active adult by addressing many different physiological systems.

Discussions will include the concepts of controlled flexibility, stability without rigidity, the controversy surrounding core stability, stretching, and alignment with an evidence informed perspective, the biopsychosocialspiritual yoga approach to injury prevention and enhancing performance, and tips for development and implementation of an effective and safe home yoga practice to complement an active lifestyle.

The practical component consists of a yoga practise exploring a variety of yoga postures, movements, breathing methods, and meditation techniques as it applies to athletes (in general) and the active adult population.
